titleChoosing Athletic Shoes – Tips and Tricks/titlepNo matter what your sport is, your athletic shoes are one of the most important pieces of equipment. From tennis to running, basketball to soccer, choosing the right athletic shoes for the right reasons can make a huge difference in keeping your feet and body healthy. Below you will find some of the things you need to consider when choosing shoes for your sport./ppbStyle Is Not Everything/b/ppJust about every day, someone asks me about their shoes. Questions vary from sport to sport, but the fact remains that the majority of people choose athletic shoes based on brand names and styles, rather than what is best for their own feet./ppI know that it can be hard to pass up those awesome looking shoes that match your uniform perfectly, but in the long run, the most important thing is that the athletic shoe serves its function…to support and protect your feet. So, lets take a closer look at what makes a good athletic shoe./ppbThe Heel Box/b/ppWhen I explain shoes to my patients, I always start with the heel box. This is where most people are similar in their needs. A sturdy heel box is essential to help control your rear-foot during athletic activities. The heel box is essentially the back third of the shoe, that surrounds your heel. Most athletic shoes have a heel box made up of leather, and some type of plastic or rubber reinforcement. However, not all athletic shoes are created equal. To test the heel box, try bending it over, or squeezing it in, and see how much resistance you encounter. If you can easily fold over the heel box, then chances are you will not get much support./ppbThe Upper/b/ppThis is the area where most people make the mistake that causes injury. The Upper is the portion of the shoe that surrounds the foot. It is the upper portion of the shoe, from the heel box to the toe box. Uppers can be fashioned from all kinds of different materials, from mesh to leather, and other types of fabrics. Depending on your foot type, you may need more or less support from the upper./ppThis portion of the shoe helps to control the mid and forefoot. Too much motion in these areas will allow for excessive stress through the meta-tarsals and tarsals, and can result in stress fractures, tendonitis, and other problems. To determine what type of foot you have, grab ahold of your foot with both hands, and move it around. Try moving individual bones around…do you find lots of motion, with little resistance, or is your foot very rigid, with little movement. You do not have to be an expert to tell if you have a flexible or rigid foot. Your athletic shoe should be opposite of your foot type. For rigid feet, you can get by with mesh or other light materials for the upper, as you need less support for your foot. For a flexible foot, you should lean more toward a rigid upper, that will control excessive motion and reduce stress./ppbThe Arch/b/ppArch support is essential for good athletic shoes. Even people with good arches, or great feet mechanics should have sufficient arch support. But, arch support is more than just the arch. It is the way that the sole of the athletic shoe is created and constructed that determines the overall characteristics of the arch. And as far as those cushy insoles that they try to upsell you at the shoe store – pass on those as they just add comfort, not support./ppWhen choosing shoes, look closely at the sole of the shoe. A good arch support will be evident by the shape of the shoe. Notice the outline of the sole. There should be a minimal amount of change in width between the toe and the heel. The wider the athletic shoe is at the middle (where your arch is), the more surface area there is to support your foot. So, avoid shoes that start out wide at the toe, narrow way down in the middle, and then flare out again at the heel./ppbChange is Good/b/ppEven the perfect athletic shoe will wear out over time. I have seen quite a few injuries due to old or worn out shoes. Just like any other equipment, you should monitor your shoes, and replace them when they wear out. If you are a runner, monitor your mileage, and replace them as appropriate./ppHow do you know when to buy new shoes? Well, holes, or pieces falling off are generally good indicators…But if it is not that obvious, look for all of the qualities that you used to choose the athletic shoe in the first place. Is the heel box still sturdy? Is the upper as rigid as it needs to be to control your foot? Is the arch still in good shape, or have you worn down one side of the sole? Answer these questions, and inspect your shoes often to keep them protecting your feet./ppbSummary/b/ppGood athletic shoes do not have to be flashy, or expensive to serve their intended purpose. There are lots of shoes out there that will fit both your needs and your budget. Look for all of the right qualities to fit your foot, and you are sure to make a wise decision. And when in doubt? Discuss shoe wear with other athletes, and the sales person at the shoe store. Chances are they have some good insight./ppBarton Anderson is a certified athletic trainer for St. Johns Sports Medicine. The Basics Of Volleyball

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Volleyball seems like a relatively simple game to play, and it is, for casual players. However, for competitive team play, there are many rules and basic techniques you need to adhere to. Here are the basics of how to play volleyball:

Volleyball Court

A regulation indoor court should be 9 by 18 meters, and the attack line should be 3 meters from the center line. Outdoor court dimensions should be 9 by 9 meters.

Equipment

The actual volleyball should be between 9 and 10 ounces. Ball pressure should generally be between 4.3 to 4.6 pounds. The net should be 32 feet by 3 feet. At the top of every net should be a 2 inch piece of canvas running along the entire length of the net. The height of the net differs for men’s and women’s games. For men’s volleyball, the height, usually measured from the center of the court, should be 2.43 meters. For women’s volleyball, the height should be 2.24 meters.

Apparel

Indoor and court volleyball players can wear either short or long sleeve shirts and shorts made from flexible fabric. Long sleeve shirts are favored for when a lot of sliding on the court for the ball may be needed. This is to protect the forearm while sliding. Padding, including knee, hip and elbow pads are important for players who will be diving, reaching and sliding to reach balls in play. Shoes should offer extra support for the ankles as well as comfort and flexibility. It’s important to remove all jewelry during play, with the exception of smooth, flat rings. This lessens the chance of damage or loss of your jewelry and also helps to protect you from injury should your wrist, hand or head be hit with the ball while you are wearing bracelets, rings or earrings.

Volleyball Play Basics

- Hand positions – There are two main hand positions. The wrapped fist hand position is when you make a fist with one hand, then wrap it with the palm of your other hand. The other main hand position is called the cupped palm position, where you bring the hands together in a cup form, then you lay your thumbs across the top.

- Serving – Two basic ways to serve are the overhand and underhand methods. The overhand serve is used most often in competitive volleyball. To serve overhanded, you toss the ball above your head a few feet, step slightly forward and then hit the ball with your hand.

- Passing – Passing is usually done to set up a hit or spike for another player or just to keep the ball in play. Passing is usually done with a forearm pass.

- Setting – A setter is important in volleyball, since a setter can control the offense and decide which players they will set up to spike or hit the ball into the opponents court. Setting is done by placing your hands above your head a few inches with your thumbs underneath. You hit the ball with your fingers only, not your palm.

- Hitting – There are many ways to hit the ball while it is in play. Some types of hits include the cross court shot, the tip shot, the line shot and the spike. The spike is the most exciting play in volleyball, when a player rises up near the net to deliver a hard shot into the opponent’s court.

- Blocking – Blocking is when you stay close to the net and leap up when the ball crosses the net to block the opponent’s shot, usually a spike attempt.

Those are the basics of volleyball, get out there and have fun!

7 Sure-Fire Tips For Potty Training Toddlers

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

There seems to be a widely held impression, past down from generation to generation, that potty training toddlers is arduous.

Follow this practical plan and you will be able to go from all those diapers to dry in days. But only if you are prepared not to be side-tracked by other distractions during this period and able to give your focus to toilet training.

1. Evaluating Your Child’s Readiness

Does your toddler have the required verbal understanding? This includes being able to understand and carry out simple instructions.

Does your toddler show signs of wanting to do more things for themselves such as pulling up their own pants?

Is your child’s bladder and bowel control adequately developed? For instance, can he or she go for two or three hours before wetting their diaper?

You really must not go on to item 2 until you are confident your toddler can handle being toilet trained.

2. Let’s Go Shopping

You want to make this trip to the shops as much fun as possible for your toddler. So what’s on that shopping list?

You should get:

  • An anatomically correct doll (a boy doll if you have a son, a girl doll if you have a daughter);
  • Potties (yes it’s best to have two or three around the home so there is always one close at hand when it’s wanted);
  • Underpants, preferably vibrantly colored. It’s even better if there’s a picture of one of their favorite cartoon characters on them. Diaper or training underpants can be a practical solution for any trips out but make sure you treat them as real pants not diapers;
  • a wall chart and stickers.

Remember to let your toddler have a say in the purchase choice.

3. Toilet Train The Doll

Silly as it may seem, you potty train the doll. The doll is a great teaching tool, it should not be seen as a toy. You will be using the doll to model correct behavior.

4. Celebrate The Doll’s Success

Each time the doll correctly uses the potty it is praised and a sticker is placed on the wall chart that records the doll’s progress. And when the doll has been potty trained it gets a party.
You want your toddler to realize that being potty trained is a happy, fun experience.

5. It’s Farewell to Diapers

Put your toddler in pants. There’s no retreating back to diapers even if there are two or three accidents along the way.

6. Give Your Toddler Plenty Of Fluids

The more your toddler drinks the more they will need to urinate. So they should get plenty of practice in using a potty.

7. Ask Your Toddler If They Need the Potty

If they say no that’s fine. With all those drinks they’ll soon need to go. Quiz them again a little later.

If they have a little accident you must not let your child see you are angry or disappointed. Just tell them they’ll do better next time. Take them to the potty and have them sit on it for two or three minutes. Give them fresh pants to put on. At short intervals take them back to the potty for a total of ten times. This will help to build muscle memory. Very soon they will urinate in the potty.

A little food for thought. It is not just what you say, it’s how you say it. This is certainly true when it comes to teaching a toddler new skills.

Find out how you can potty train even the most strong willed child in days.

Discover the right tone of voice and words to use when toilet training your toddler.

Step by Step Female Orgasm Techniques

Friday, November 28th, 2008

Shocking fact: 70% of females never have an orgasm during sexual intercourse.

Yep, it’s true.

Furthermore, about a third of all females anywhere have never had an orgasm, EVER.

Again, that’s 100% FACT.

There are multiple reasons why this may be the case, and every female has a different set of circumstances for why they have never had an orgasm. Some of them are quite severe and require counselling or medical intervention, such as a history of sexual abuse, or the extremely rare cases of women who cannot orgasm based on medical problems.

However, for most women, the reason they have never orgasmed is very simple – they just haven’t met a man who can help them reach the “big O”.

The reality is that women love sex. Way more than any guy ever could. Think about it. If you had ten THOUSAND times the amount of touch receptors in your skin, as well as the ability to have multiple orgasms all night long, don’t you think sex would be better for you too?

However, women usually need a man who can lead them to orgasm. They’ve been told all their life that it’s “dirty” or “slutty” or “wrong” to be forward at all in the areas of romance and sex. It’s always the guy who has to go over and talk to her, the guy who has to get her number, the guy who has to initiate the sex. In the same way, it’s the guy who has to help them reach orgasm.

So how does this relate to you?

It’s simple. You need to take control of her sexual pleasure. That’s not to say that she should just lay there and do nothing – in fact, that’s a really quick recipe for disaster – but rather that you have to take the initiative during your sexual activiites.

Whilst whole ebooks can be (and have been) written on the subject of pleasing a woman during sex, I’ve written one myself in fact, which you can check out by clicking on the link in my author bio.

Having said that, in the space of this article, I will at least try to give you some really cool step by step female orgasm techniques, so here we go:

1. Build Sexual Tension/Attraction

You need to build attraction and sexual tension before you even start getting down to things. Women are very perceptive creatures and often know a lot more about us than we like. The way you think about yourself, the way you dress, the aftershave you are wearing, and so on all contribute to how this woman feels about you. And to be really, really good at making her feel really, really good, you need to build a strong attraction SEXUALLY. This is important because many women don’t think about sex in the same way we do – they will sleep with someone because they “like” him, but because they’re “attracted” to him sexually, probably largely because most women haven’t gotten in touch with that really sexual part of themselves yet.

Exactly HOW to go about creating that sexual attraction is a subject all in its own, and it can be very hard to describe on paper. The best advice I can give you in such a short space is to believe you are desirable and sexy. That will project to her through thousands of subconscious signals and she will pick up on it. If you try and walk the walk without having the mental attitude to back it up, you’ll just be putting the cart before the horse – and she’ll see right through you.

2. Get Her To Relax

One of the biggest factors in women not being able to orgasm is that they’re not relaxed. During sex they’re worried that their hair is bad, they are ugly, the lighting makes them look bad, their stomach looks big from that angle… whatever. It may be hard for us to understand, but it does happen.

The best way to combat this is to get her to relax and to feel comfortable around you. Try joking around with her, putting her at ease, all that sort of stuff. In addition, if you find she’s tense, just focus on doing something that makes her feel good that isn’t necessarily sexual – massages are fantastic for this purpose, but there’s a lot of other things that can work really well too – like just talking to her.

3. Be In The Driver’s Seat

As we have discussed, most women won’t advance things out of fear of seeming too “forward”. So that means its up to you to take things to their natural conclusion. During each stage of the sexual process, from building tension, to light foreplay, to heavy foreplay, to the actual sex, you will need to guide her through each of these stages. Be firm but gentle, and if she says “no”, then listen to her and stop. If she doesn’t, however, take that as a green light to keep going.

4. Take Your Time

Nothing is more of a deal-breaker for a girl’s orgasm than a guy who just wants to get naked and play “hide the sausage”. You need to be more concerned with every single thing you are doing making her feel really, really good. Every part of a girl’s body is very sensitive and receptive to any touch you might want to bestow upon it, so have fun. Nibble on her earlobes. Run your hands all over her body. Talk dirty to her (but not too dirty, keep it tame at first). run your tongue over all the parts of her body that you are willing to. All these things help gradually build her into a sexually receptive mindset, which is when you can begin to really make her feel good.

5. Foreplay is Important

Once she’s really starting to get horny – for example, she’s breathing heavy, moaning a bit, you’re both naked, and her vagina is wet and probably a little red and swollen – it’s time to start making her feel good. Begin with some more “heavy” foreplay. Try fingering her or, if you and her are comfortable with it, going down on her. Don’t stop until she’s either had an orgasm (preferably more than one) or she just can’t take it anymore and has to jump you.

You will find, at this point, that giving her orgasms is probably very easy, provided you pay attention to what she likes and what she doesn’t and adequately use the clit and her G-Spot. These issues are, obviously, far too detailed ot be written about in this article, but my e-book does include a thorough analysis of how to make her feel really good using these two areas (and everything else, for that matter).

As you might have noticed, an orgasm is the end result of a long result of effort applied in the right way. It takes work and preparation, but with the correct knowledge, you can easily give any woman an orgasm any time she wants one, in any position. The frequency and power of those orgasms will certainly increase with your skills improving, however, and that’s why I recommend you seek out ways to further improve your knowledge – and then put it to the test. I’m sure she won’t mind.

How You Can Stop Razor Bumps

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Here’s a really simple way to stop the painful razor bumps, ingrown hairs and razor burn. Learn how to stop irritating your skin and avoid razor bumps with just a few simple steps.

Razor bumps, ingrown hairs, pseudofolliculitis barbae we know they hurt but, why do they appear? It all happens when we shave. While shaving our facial hair gets caught between the follicle or it grows the other way, into the skin. That’s what produces the swelling, redness and swelling.

This does not mean you are stuck with razor bumps for life. There are ways to help diminish razor bumps and here in this article we will share these tips with you.

The first step is to use active ingredients. There are tons of men skin care products that claim to alleviate ingrown hairs and razor bumps, but don’t rush to conclusions. The truth is that the active ingredient that eliminates razor bumps is Salicylic Acid. What this ingredient does is moisturize, exfoliate and clear you pores thus avoiding any further infections. For even better results use an after shave product that contains salicylic acid and that way it will stay on your skin during the day. The No-No’s here is that you should NEVER use products that contain alcohol. Alcohol dries your skin and closes your pore which only worsens your ingrown hairs. Also, do not use foam shaving creams because these also dry your skin. Instead use non-acnegenic shaving creams which are specially made for men with sensitive skin.

Tip number two focuses on how to improve the surface of your skin. Removing the outer layers of your dead skin may sound nasty but to sum it up it’s called exfoliating. Men who have ingrown hairs must exfoliate in order to improve the skin’s surface. This can easily be done with a gentle face scrub that contains the ingredient we mentioned in the first tip, salicylic acid.

Change is good. And that is why my next tip to you involves you changing the way you shave. By now you should know that shaving too closely is one of the main causes of razor bumps. If you didn’t know, well know you know. By shaving too close, your hair stubs will be cut to close to the skin and more prone to getting stuck inside the hair follicle and viola an ingrown hair is born.

A couple of things you can do to avoid shaving too close is first of all not pulling on your skin when you shave. Do not apply too much pressure on the razor blade, shave with the grain and use a single blade razor.

It is crucial you keep this in mind while shaving because if you forget and shave too close the razor bumps will come back to haunt you and it will take a while before you get rid of them again.

What about the ingrown hairs you already have? Now it’s time to destroy those little suckers. To get rid of your ingrown hairs you just simple but carefully lift the ingrown end out with tweezers. Warning: Do not pluck them out. Just lift them out of the skin otherwise the ingrown hair will only re-grow deeper. To reduce the redness and swelling you can use products that contain azulene, allantoin and witch hazel. Those ingredients will keep you comfortable.

There you have it, for easy to follow tips to get rid of your razor bumps. All you have to do is take a couple of more minutes of shaving time and remember to keep these tips in mind. I also suffered from razor bumps and aside from it being embarrassing it was painful. However, thanks to these steps I was able to get in control and improve my skin. You can do it too! You can keep on irritating your skin or you can put this in practice and see similar results.

Steps to Take If Your Husband Has Become Distant

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

If your husband has become distant your mind may be imagining all kinds of scenarios to explain his behavior. It’s easy to jump to conclusions when the person you love most in the world suddenly pulls back and is less connected to you. Typically when a man becomes more closed off with his emotions it’s because he is thinking about his feelings. If you are concerned that this is a warning sign of an impending breakdown of the relationship, you may be right. There are steps you can take to make your husband love you more so you can save your marriage.

If your husband has become distant your first instinct may be to pester him into talking to you about his feelings. This isn’t the approach you want to take. Many men become agitated when they are feeling pressured into talking about how they are feeling. It can result in them pulling back even more. If you want your husband to feel closer to you again you need to give him some time and space.

Quite often the source of his change in mood and the reason your husband becomes distant is because there is an ongoing conflict between the two of you. Men don’t always express how deeply they are affected when they disagree with their wife. If the conflict is something that has been a thorn in the side of your marriage for some time it can actually cause a shift in how your husband feels about you. Work out any issues with him now so they don’t impact your marriage any further.

Specific things you do and say can compel your husband to fall in love with you all over again. Saying or doing the wrong thing can actually cause him to feel even more distant from you. If you want your husband to fall even deeper in love with you now than when you two first married, visit this helpful site.

You don’t have to worry about whether your husband is on the brink of asking you for a divorce. You can control the situation and use specific techniques to naturally make him fall hopelessly in love with you. Find out here what you need to be doing to ensure your husband loves you always.

Do I Have to Gain Weight to Build Muscle?

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

There is a misconception floating around the internet, within the walls of chatty homes, and gliding down the sidewalks alongside the misinformation highway — that misconception? You have to gain weight in order to build muscle.

Many people mistakenly believe that muscle weighs more than fat; this is simply untrue. This fallacy is destroyed by simple logic — ten pounds equals ten pounds, whether it is fat, muscle, gold, or water. To be fair, though — five cubic inches of muscle would weigh more than five cubic inches of fat; however, this does not mean that muscle weighs more than fat.

Some women, and men as well, are afraid of working out and building muscle because they think that they have to gain weight in order to do so. However, such fears are not founded on sound facts. They believe that if they head to the gym, lift weights, or even take part in anything more than a light cardiovascular activity, that they will inevitably increase their weight and “bulk up”.

Muscle building does not have to be all about “bulking up”; it can be all about strengthening your body and redefining the way that you look. Let’s say, for instance, that you are a male, five foot, nine inches tall and weigh one-hundred and seventy-five pounds. You’re happy with your weight, but you’re not happy with the way that your body looks. By focusing on adding definition to your build, rather than adding obscene amounts of muscle, you can maintain your same weight while completely redefining your shape.

The same can be said for women — if you’re five foot, four inches tall and weigh one-hundred and twenty-five pounds, your current weight may be acceptable to you, but you’re afraid to work out because you hear that ‘muscle weighs more than fat’. The same principal applies here — you can maintain your one-hundred and twenty-five pounds, build muscle, lower your body fat percentage, and still maintain your current weight, albeit with definition and strength rather than with the less-than-toned look that you may currently be sporting.

Bottom line — you do not need to worry about gaining weight when you work to burn fat and build muscle. By building muscle, you will be burning fat, as well as adding definition — and by exercising a little bit of control over your workout routine, you can maintain your current weight and proudly show it off on the new and improved you.

Build Muscle Up answers common muscle-building questions and shows individuals how to build muscles quickly. Learn about muscle weight gain and read reviews on the top muscle-building systems on our website.

How Do You Get a Guy Back? – Helpful Advice For Women

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

Break ups are an unfortunate part of life for every woman. We’ve all had our hearts broken at times by a man we were head over heels crazy for. In most instances we take the break up in stride. We may mourn the loss for a few days, share our sorrows with our girlfriends and then we move on. It’s not always that easy though. Some relationships are too important to get over that quickly. In fact, you may feel that your ex boyfriend was actually your one true love. If you do happen to feel that way, you’ve likely thought about winning him back. The easy answer to the question of how do you get a guy back is be emotionally strong.

Men expect women to fall apart in stressful emotional situations. After a split they assume that the woman, if she’s still in love, will beg for another chance. You may have actually been tempted to do just that. It’s an easy trap to fall into. Your emotions take control and before you know it you’re calling your ex and crying on the phone to him. This is not going to help you in anyway achieve the goal of reuniting with your ex. Behavior like this can actually cause him to run as far away from you as he possibly can. You really want to put on a brave face. This will really help you get a guy back because he’ll see that you’re mature and can keep yourself together.

Another thing that will really help you get a guy back is to agree with him when he says you need time apart. Don’t help him pack his suitcase and don’t hold the door open for him, but agree that a split may be good for you both. Again, men jump to the conclusion that if a woman loves them, she’ll fight tooth and nail to keep them. Men want to feel that, it gives them some reassurance about how you feel. If you do the exact opposite and welcome the break he’s going to go into a tailspin. Many relationships have actually been fixed just because the man who first mentioned the idea of a break up got worried when his girlfriend agreed to it. Act as if you’re okay with the break up and he’ll start to think about what he can be doing to win you back.

It’s obviously important that you think through each and every move when you are trying to get your boyfriend back. Most women have no idea that everything they say and do after a break up potentially impacts the chance of a reunion. To find out more about what steps are necessary to get your boyfriend back, including what not to do, visit this helpful site!

There are proven and effective ways to win back your ex boyfriend. Don’t let your emotions guide you through this difficult time. Find out what you need to be doing to ensure you get him back forever.

Getting Over a Breakup – Advice For Men

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Most men in are in a subculture best described as emotionally retarded. No one teaches you the intricacies of getting over a breakup. “Walk it off and move on”, is the extent of relationship advice most men understand.

The following tips offer a logical, very male point of view to cope with a breakup.

Constructive Not Destructive Behavior

When someone tells you to be a man, they may imply “have a few beers”. It’ll ease your heart ache for one night, but has no beneficial impact on your life.

Engaging in destructive behavior is a fools errand. Over spending, getting drunk, hooking up with the first girl you meet offers only short term relief without offering a long term solution.

Turning to alcohol can also directly tarnish your image. Getting drunk only clouds your judgment enough to make unwise decisions. Have you ever called an ex girlfriend while you were drunk? It’s not pretty.

Focus your immediate energy on building your confidence. Engage activities where you excel and dominate. Get back to feeling in control and return to the status of alpha male.

Regaining confidence is vital to getting over a breakup.

Advice For Men If you Want Your Girlfriend Back

The pain of a breakup is difficult to mask especially for men. Confronting emotion is not second nature for most, so at a moment of weakness you may feel the urge to confess your true, inner most thoughts.

There’s nothing wrong with being emotional, just don’t show it to the girl who just dumped you. You want to maintain your dignity and confidence. Portray yourself as a worthy candidate for her affection.

Women want security, comfort and, to a lesser degree, protection. Groveling, begging, and crying on her shoulder will only gain her pity, not her love.

If you’ve recently separated and are having trouble getting over a breakup, the relationship guide for men by T.W. Jackson offers valuable insight. You’ll learn what you should and should not do after a breakup.
