Patent Map Generation and Reading

Friday, December 12th, 2008

Patent Mapping a way to visualize patent mining results that involves clustering or otherwise orienting patent data on a page so that there is meaning in the spatial relationships among the data points. Patent Landscape: graphical representation of how large numbers of patents relate to each other based on keywords, citations, or patent classifications. It is useful in identify trends, determine patent gaps and opportunities, and design around competitors’ patents.

Patent maps are not only produced for a specific use, but also are produced to serve as so-called general-purpose use. Consequently, when using them, their contents can be read from various viewpoints. In particular, by combining multiple maps (figures and tables), it is possible to find a new matter that cannot be obtained from a single map.

In addition, a total of more than 50 types of expressions, excluding minor ones, are used in this patent map series. Furthermore, total more than 200 maps were produced in terms of their technology fields. The readers can grasp various kind of matters from these patent maps according to their objective and intention. In the following section, readers will be able to understand typical objectives of patent map and various representational
types of patent map as well as the matters that can be extracted from these patent maps.

To Understand the Overall State of a Technology Field

When a company start a research and development or licensing for entering into a new business of a certain technology field, the company need to seize the overall image of the technology field and the related technology fields including pertinent patents.
Patent maps of a technology field introduce the content and number to which patents have been filed for the field, the uses in which the technology field is being used and the theme related to research and development of the field. The following shows the typical expressions of patent maps used for these purposes.

Time-series map

In addition, by griping the source of these technologies as a result of ascertaining the process by which technologies developed, it can be used as information that provides a hint for creating new ideas. As the map provides the relationship and the distribution of patent rights in a specific technology field, it allows the preparation of a specification for acquiring strong patent rights by comparing the time series of the distribution.

To Find out Technological Changes

Technology is continuously changing due to the intense competition over the development of technology and the diversification of market needs. Being able to appropriately accommodate these changes is extremely important not only for venture companies and small and medium sized companies, but for proceedings with any kind of business. There are patent maps which are produced by analyzing patent information based on the changes in the number of patent applications and the appearances of important patent.

Since the number of patent applications indicates technological development activities, while the number of applicants indicates the number of participating companies, observing this relationship makes it possible to grip the maturity of the technology field.

In addition, knowing the maturity of a technology field to which one’s own company conducts makes it possible to judge the timing of development policies such as establishing technical tie-ups with other companies and focusing on certain development themes.

Matrix analysis

Portraying the correlation between technical elements (such as purpose and function) obtained from patent information in the form of a matrix makes it possible to show important problems affecting the development of a technology field. Moreover, with the addition of a time axis, trends in problems affecting technological development can also be observed. As a result, since technical trends can be caught, the selection of development themes and studies of priority can be conducted effectively when planning and proposing them.

Map of technology development

This patent map makes it possible to view the technical structure and the expanse of technological development of the technology field, the existence
of specific patents that must be paid attention. In addition, since it also provides a complete image of the technology field, it is capable of providing a hint for forecasting the direction of technological development and planning of new products.

Have Fun and Be Festive With the Scrubs You Wear this Halloween and Holiday Season

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

You are a devoted, dedicated medical or dental professional. You care about your performance, your patience, and your professional appearance. You work hard and give every day and every patient your one hundred percent. You are serious and walk a straight line. However, you and your colleagues like to bring joy and a fun-loving atmosphere to your ward. You like to keep the mood upbeat and keep the air vibrant so as to liven up the atmosphere. A positive, fun atmosphere is known to keep the patients of a hospital happy and healing faster and to keep visitors to a doctor or dentist’s office feeling welcome and well-cared for. You play comforting music when you can and you decorate your workspace for the holidays or seasons. Now, you can go the extra mile. Show your festiveness and enthusiasm with holiday, seasonal, or happy-print uniforms or scrubs.

What does this mean? Some may think, “Big deal. How does what you wear create a lively mood?” When I was young, I used to think it was weird when teachers would wear Christmas sweaters or skeleton earrings on Halloween. However, now that I think about it, those were the teachers who liked having fun and made learning interesting. They liked to keep the mood light and always encouraged us to do the same. As a medical practitioner of sorts, you too, have the power to create this unique and pleasurable atmosphere. The reality is that what we wear on the outside, speaks to others about us before we even say a word. That goes for facial expressions and our clothes. Since medical professions are bound by dress codes, your uniform or scrubs are what you have to work with. So, for the less adventurous, liven up the vibe at your place of work and show your patients your pleasant nature with something as simple as a floral print scrub top. They will see you are fun and friendly. For those that are into the holidays or changing seasons, you can find tops that have a Halloween theme, or a fall or winter theme. Medical uniforms do not have to be drab and ugly. They can be comfortable, fun, and expressive all at the same time. You will discover that trying new prints and styles in medical uniforms or nurse scrubs will not only be fun for your patients to see but will be fun for you too.

For those that have never tried fun prints before, you may be at a loss as to where to begin looking for the right kind of scrub. One of the most popular brands for very happy, fun, yet professional looking scrubs is Landau scrubs. You can find great, vibrant color prints as well as standard colors too. They provide jackets; print tops, solid color tops, and knit tops, as well comfy bottoms. They also make styles for men.

You make your office or ward hum. You bring the energy to that place that both your colleagues and patients appreciate. Let your light shine and bring it up a notch with festive and fun-loving scrubs and medical uniforms. Professional doesn’t mean dull.

If you want to express yourself through your medical uniforms this Halloween or Holiday season, then get over to ScrubsandBeyond.com where you can find everything from a floral print scrub top to jack-o-lanterns and ghosts for your nurse scrubs.

Sun Yat-sen, Father of China

Wednesday, January 30th, 2008

Sun Yat-sen

Leader of the Chinese revolution

Father of the Chinese mainland

The first provisional President

When the Republic of China was founded

Developing a political philosophy

Upon which the government was grounded

The Three Principles of the People

Nationalism, democracy, and livelihood

Sun Yat-sen loved his people

And dared to do good

Because he did deeply care

He sought their betterment and welfare

His legacy still influences China today

The Republic growing stronger economically by day

Sun’s foundation did certainly pave the way.

Sun studied English at the Anglican Diocesan Home

Where he learned a new song

Sun was taught also by the orphanage in Hong Kong

About the struggle of other kids

And the necessity to fight to win.

To apply yourself regardless

With or without the approval of your kin.

In April 1884, Sun was transferred to Queen’s College.

Sun was happily baptized by an American missionary

Wholeheartedly embraced Christ and Christianity,

Which led to the making of this great revolutionary.

Sun pictured a revolution as similar to salvation

The mission and mandate of Jesus Christ

And for China’s salvation he gave his devotion and life.

Sun’s conversion to Christianity led to the development

Of his revolutionary ideals and push for advancement.

The Spirit of Christ brought Sun life enhancement.

As a result, his baptismal name, Rixin was given,

“Daily renewal” is its literal meaning.

Greatly troubled by a backward China

That demanded exorbitant taxes

Levies from its people

Though they be obedient and humble

Honorable, harmonious, and not apt to quarrel.

The people were conservative and compliant

Hence they needed a spokesperson a bit defiant

Upon whom they could be reliant

The Chinese ancient methodology

Left no room for expression or creativity.

Freedom of thought and opinion was nonexistent

So Sun Yat-sen did cosmetics encourage, and make a place for it.

From the influence of Christian missionaries in Hawaii,

Sun learned to question things and ask “Why?”

Sun developed a disdain for traditional Chinese religious beliefs.

Which he knew experientially to be fruitless and weak.

One day, Sun and his childhood friend Lu Hao-tung

Thought to challenge the people and do something fun

Challenge the false gods and prove them to be powerless

Passing by Beijidian, a temple in Cuiheng Village,

He beheld dead religion which was nothing more than pillage

They saw many villagers sincerely and ignorantly worshipping

The Beiji (literally North Pole) emperor-god in the temple.

So they boldly broke off the hand of the statue,

As expected nothing in retaliation did the god to them do

The wrath of fellow villagers however did they incur

Nevertheless for truth they considered the persecution

Inevitable and were willing to endure

To open unto their people a divine door

Through Christ of whom they were sure

The joys of heaven and freedom, their hearts it did lure.

As for the Beiji god, it never defended itself

Being unable and lacking in divine power

This defining moment was therefore the hour

In which Sun Yat-sen broke free from religious ignorance

And endeavored to launch a new move with brilliance

Liberating and uplifting his people would be glorious

Set on a course to accomplish national transformation

Sun, who had grown increasingly troubled

By the conservative Qing government

And its refusal to adopt knowledge

Quit his medical practice in order to devote his time

To transform his beloved China.

In 1894, Sun wrote a long letter to Li Hongzhang,

The governor-general of Zhili and a reformer in the court,

With suggestions on how to strengthen China,

But Sun was rebuffed and of him they made sport.

Since Sun had never been trained in the classics,

The gentry did not accept Sun into their circles.

From then on, Sun began to fervently call

For the abolition of the monarchy and its fall

The monarchy’s blind eyes that could not see

Sun worked for the establishment of a republic in liberty.

In October 1894, Sun went to Hawaii

Believing for national renewal and a political strategy

Sun founded the Revive China Society

He became China’s revivalist that touched eternity

To unveil the goal of a prospering China

His ideas formed a platform for revolutionary activity

People of lower classes who were disenfranchised came

Upheld the ideals and virtues of his name

Laboring for China’s liberation just the same

Fellow Cantonese expatriates joined the cause

Birthing breakthrough for a civilization today we awe

1.2 billion citizens of splendid China

A pleasant people scattered across the planet

Their delicious culinary delights, we do taste it

The stronghold of imperialism, Sun you did break it

Transcending the wall of China and those who made it

A magnificent cultural phenomena

Today Caucasians say, “Nee how ma?”

As this world power is known economically

It is also exquisite culturally

Mighty and to be feared militarily

Increasingly being awakened spiritually

By Chinese revivalists preaching throughout China

Today saying, “Yay-soo eye nee!”

Renewal is sweeping the land triumphantly!

Sun Yat-sen, father of China,

Your efforts and acts done diligently

Have surely brought your homeland victory

Sun Yat-sen, for China, we thank and salute thee!
