Maximize Your Garage Sale Profits – Sale Presentation

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Part one of this series discussed the importance of effective advertising to attract customers to your garage sale. This article will give you great ideas on how to get organized for your sale and how to present your sale items in a way that will make customers want to buy.

Getting organized will help you to know what you have, what you need, and what to do with it. When going through your garage sale goods start sorting them into categories such as household items, sports and recreation, toys and games, etc. This will help you during the presentation part of the sale later. Once you have a good idea of what you have make a list of what you might need for the sale such as tables for display, stickers for pricing, coins and small bills for giving out change, clothes rack and hangers, chairs and a table to sit at, snacks and drinks for your sales people (you and your kids). Having everything you need ahead of time helps to eliminate some stress and the mad dash feeling when customers start showing up and your aren’t ready yet.

The layout of your sale can encourage or deter shoppers. Most will agree that they are more likely to peruse a sale if items are visible, easy to find, and the prices are clearly marked. The same goes for your garage sale customers. Lay similar items near each other on tables if available or in clusters on your lawn and driveway. Do not crowd too many things together. Make use of other sale items to prop things up and make it look nice. If you have clothes to sell, put them on hangers and hang them on a rack. No one likes to paw through a box of messy clothes to find something that might fit or look nice on them. This is a great way to get rid of wire hangers or the old plastic hangers. If you don’t have a clothes rack, you can improvise with a rope or broom tied or propped between two ladders. Arrange the clothes by color or type and size.

Pricing can be done with stickers or signs on tables clearly marking that these items are a certain price. Color-code your stickers so that a particular color sticker represents a particular price and make a sign to illustrate the color pricing. This method saves huge amounts of time, since you do not have to write a price on each individual item. Pricing items is entirely up to you and you will find many people like to barter, so do not worry about setting a price too high. You can always lower the price as the sale goes on throughout the day.

Customer service is part of presentation as well. Greet your customers as they arrive with a friendly smile and hello. Ask if there is something you can help them find and let them know you are available if they have any questions. Play a little upbeat music to set a fun and positive atmosphere. Shoppers in a good mood are more likely to buy.

When you advertise in multiple sources, organize your sale items in a way that is easy for shoppers to find what they are looking for, and present those items in so people can see things they did not know they wanted and you are guaranteed to get the most bang for your buck. Remember, garage sales are a great time to be outdoors with your family and neighbors, so have fun.

Things to Include in Your Prenuptial Agreements

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

Being married can be an important step in a couple’s life and you must make sure that you are prepared for all the different things that will change once you are married. There are many things that can change over the course of a marriage including how big your family is and your financial status. You should seriously think about how all the things that might change in your marriage and what you want to do about that.

Prenuptial agreements can be one of the most helpful ways to make sure that if a divorce happens, your assets and family are secure. This type of agreement is when you and your spouse sit down before the wedding and discuss what will happen with all your assets. You will sit down with your future spouse to discuss what might happen with future children as well as any property you obtain during the marriage. This will be discussed in the presence of a lawyer and will be written out by the same lawyer as well. The two of you need to discuss exact details for what will be written out in your prenuptial agreement.

The first thing that needs to be written out is what will happen with any future kids that you may have or adopt during your marriage. There are many options that you can take while you are married and trying to have children. Even if you don’t plan on having children, you may want to make a note in the agreement of what you would like to do just in case the issue of children comes up.

The next thing that you should consider putting in to your prenup would be any financial aspects that you might want to include in the process. When you are married over a long period of time, financial status with you and your spouse can change. You need to be prepaired for anything that might come up during a divorce. Deciding how you will divide the assets in a prenuptial agreement can be a helpful tool if a divorce ever comes up between you and your spouse. Dividing the assets can be one of the hardest parts during a divorce, so having things already planned out can be one of the best things that you could do for the future.

Understanding Hair Texture and How to Best Work With It

Monday, October 20th, 2008

You might be surprised to learn that just about every human being has 100,000 strands of hair on their heads. However, because of differences in texture, some people appear to have less hair, and some people appear to have a whole lot more.

What is texture?
Texture is the circumference of each individual strand of hair. If you have fine hair then your hair has a small circumference and you appear to have less hair on your head. Conversely, if you have coarse hair then your hair has a larger circumference and this bulk makes you appear to have a lot more hair than someone with finer hair texture.

Ultimately, the texture of your hair is simply a matter of genetics; if your parents have coarse hair, you will also, if they have finer hair, you will too. However, thankfully the hair care industry has developed ways you can enhance and modify your hair’s natural texture to achieve the popular styling choices you desire.

Fine Textured Hair

Fine textured hair is generally straight and can appear limp because of residues from hair care products. It can easily be processed by perming and coloring. However, it is important to not over-process fine hair because it can be easily damaged.

There are many things you can do to enhance the texture of fine hair. Some of them are:

Use a Clarifying Shampoo – To reduce residues and oils you should use a clarifying shampoo on fine hair. This will strip off the residue left by shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. Kenra manufactures a shampoo called: Kenra Clarifying Shampoo. Kenra’s Clarifying Shampoo is ideal for removing mineral deposits and chemical build-up from hair styling products. However, while this shampoo cleanses your hair, it also adds shine and body.

Use Mousse While Wet – After you shampoo with a clarifying shampoo, adding mousse to your hair (when it is wet) can give it added texture. Start at the roots and massage the mousse into your hair and then let it air dry, or dry it with a hairdryer on low heat. Not everyone wants to use the same hold factor in a mousse. There is a very wide variety of mousses to choose from, however I have three different options to look at. First is the Alterna Life Volumizing Spray Mousse. This is an aerosol mousse that has a light to medium hold. The Alterna Life Mousse was manufactured with fine and thin hair in mind. The exclusive LIFE blend of extracts provides weightless thickening agents that define, maintain, and preserve volume all day long. This product also contains anti humectants that effectively repel humidity, leaving your hair with a smooth texture and a radiant shine.

If you need more of a hold, I would go with a medium hold mousse. An example of this is the Biosilk Silk Mousse. This is an alcohol free mousse that is rich, creamy, and infused with concentrated silk and botanical extracts which add volume and shine.

If you require a strong holding mousse, I would recommend the Brocato Volumizing Foam. This product is a strong holding mousse that creates visual texture and stunning shine. This mousse allows your hair style to be firm, yet still moveable. This is an exceptional volumizing foam with a powerful hold that is great for all hair types!

Color Your Fine Hair – Another good way to add texture to fine hair is to color it. Coloring your hair adds texture to it by enlarging the hair shaft.

Coarse Textured Hair

Coarse, textured hair is generally thicker and harder to process. Coarse hair resists perming, straightening, and coloring.

There are a few things you can do to work with the texture of coarse hair. Some of them are:

Add Moisture – Coarse hair needs added moisture to control frizz and curl. By using a good conditioner you can insure you course hair will lay flatter and be shinier. Some manufacturers offer leave in treatments, rinse-out treatments, or hydrating conditioners that will help to incorporate moisture back into your hair. Bonacure makes a rinse-out treatment entitled Bonacure Moisture Treatment. This is a great product for naturally dry, or naturally coarse hair. This product reconstructs the moisture in your hair shaft from the inside out, which balances the moisture in your hair.

Joico makes a leave-in detangler that you can use on a daily basis which is called Joico Daily Leave-in Detangler. This is a conditioning agent that helps to condition, detangle, and make hair easier to manage. This product will also help you restore the moisture balance in your hair.

People rave about Pureology products and what they do for their hair, and that is why I would recommend the Pureology Hydrating Conditioner. The hydrating conditioner works from the inside out to keep your hair color fresh and your hair detangled ,all with renewed body and amazing shine! Hair is left conditioned, color protected, and shiny!

Air Dry – One of the most important things you can do for coarse hair is to let it air dry. Wash it, condition it, and then let it dry on its own. By not handling your hair too much while it is drying, it will not frizz.

Whether you have fine hair, coarse hair, or something in between, you can work with it by learning about texture and which products to use and which to avoid. By using products that are beneficial for your hair texture, you can better amplify the hair that you were given.

What Is Your Message?

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

We all are constantly sending out messages, whether by word or by body language. Are you sending out the right messages? Since we do have control over our thoughts we have that advantage to change our messages at any time. Now just think about this, we can smile, think happy thoughts, change our biophysical chemistry and that is what we broadcast to others.

Some people have difficulties when they are in a skin state of mind. They can not seem to put themselves in the proper frame of mind. There is something to the statement of turning that frown upside down. A smile communicates many things, that one is happy, loving and another being confident. Laughter always helps and sometimes I do look for a joke or two to break my mood. I find that smiling is always helpful it puts me in a position of advantage.

There is a statement which goes like this “Production is the basis of Morale.” That statement is true, in that, if your production is leading you towards that which you want, you morale is high. Think about that, when you are in the trenches working on a project, you want a certain outcome or result, what happens? I know with myself I am focused, happy, confident, feeling very powerful. Yet if your production is aimless, or you have no outcome in mind, what occurs is that you tend to lose your enthusiasm for the project.

Bob Proctor once said “there were these stock brokers who were excited because they were making money, but the truth is they were making money because they were excited.” This is definitely a true statement. These past few weeks I have been excited about taking part in an opportunity, and because I got excited, I started to make money. But as soon as any doubt or grim thought comes in then the mood shifts and nothing happens.

We can neutralize our enthusiasm by just thinking the opposite “The What If” scenario, which will steal your power. Keeping in that state of mind to produce income, is a fine line. It is like you are placing yourself on a fence, lean to one direction and there you will fall, lean to other and there you are. Funny thing about our choices, even this example makes me laugh, but it is so true, because we can be very perplexed. Our own thoughts can betray us. Is this the message you want to send? If our thoughts can betray us so quickly, what is the tool that we can use to offset these feelings? It is as simple as a smile, a laugh or a thought of love. Think of a little kitty in your hands, you whole mood just changes.

What we focus on does expand. Let us take a look at what we are focusing on. This in itself sends out that message to the material world and the universe. We are so bent on having evidence placed in our view that sometimes we forget the right sequence in which things manifest in our lives. To continue to harp on not seeing results only reinforces the same behavior that brings about those results we are not seeing. This may not be stated eloquently but it is true none the less.

You know sometimes things just don’t work out the way you would like them to. The search for your answer is right there within you. But, when the same thing happens consistently, you don’t ask for help. You feel that if you did it would be a sign of weakness. If I have learned anything in my entire life, I have learned that asking for help brings about the solutions that you need to hear. They may not be what you want to cosmetics but you need to hear them anyway. You want to have a great year, but you go it alone and bam your right back to where you started. You can change that, but you fear that if you do others will take advantage. I have been their and done that. The greatest results I had ever gotten came from a mentor or from something that I was accountable for.

If you want to send out a great message and you want to be effective, by all means hire a life coach or a great friend that will support you and keep you accountable. You will find that your message with some help will shift toward what you want, faster and with greater impact, then going it alone.

Think happy and prosperous thoughts, visualize in every project, action or activity reaping the rewards from focused attention that produces the outcomes that you are looking for. Take charge of your own “happiness makeover” and that is my message!
